WELCOME TO PETANQUE WA
Pétanque is a form of French boules where the goal is to throw metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (piglet) or jack. The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel, but can also be played on grass or other surfaces.
Similar games are bocce and bowls. The term pétanque comes from the Provençal pés tanqués which means “Feet Together.” It is suitable for young and old and can be enjoyed by people with a wide range of disabilities.
Today Pétanque is played in more than 40 countries with several million players. It is increasingly popular in Asia especially in Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore and is rapidly growing in popularity in Australia. Pétanque Western Australia is the state body representing all six Western Australian clubs.
The objective of PWA is to promote the growth and development of Pétanque in WA as a recreational and competitive sport.
PWA also organises state competitions and fundraising to send teams to represent the state in national and international events.
